Our Programme

Interest Led 1-2-1 Mentoring Programme for Young People

Our Programme

The Esteem 1-2-1 Mentoring Programme is a tailored approach to student re-engagement. Our programme engages individuals who have been identified as requiring support within their educational setting and require specialised mentoring to allow them to achieve their goals. Esteem Mentoring combines highly experienced staff with their expertise in inspiring and educating young people to create a setting for success. To do this, we cater to the young persons needs by using an interest-led approach. We use their interests and aspirations to design a customised programme which aims to meet the needs of the young person, whilst working 1-2-1 alongside an appropriate mentor carefully selected to meet their needs.

We currently have 3 mentoring programmes ranging from KS2 through to Post-16, click the links below to find out more about each of our programmes:

The 1-2-1 Esteem Mentoring programme aims to:

  • Build self-esteem, confidence & foster positive relationships

  • Raise aspirations through developing social and ethical intelligence

  • Engage young people within a nurturing environment where they can thrive

  • Identify and develop the strengths of the young people we work with

  • Prepare the learner for the next stage in their journey

  • Improve academic performance by tailoring the program to the young person and in line with their academic level

To achieve this, we use a strengths based approach to overcome barriers and develop personal goals to ensure they are inspired to work towards their desired future. At Esteem we work with young people aged 11-16 and match them to a skilled and experienced mentor and role model, who works alongside the child to design a bespoke programme in line with their needs.

How It Works

An Intervention, not a Destination

Our programme is tailored to meet the unique needs of each individual. We believe that every young person has a unique set of circumstances, and our aim is to work with them on a 1-2-1 basis to create a bespoke plan that is tailored to their specific requirements.

Our experienced personnel will work closely with the individual, their family and other key contacts to develop an approach that will help them to thrive and reach their full potential.

Unlike traditional schools, we do not have a base where we take pupils. Instead, we leverage the benefits of being off-site to create an environment that is conducive to learning. We aim to make our curriculum engaging and dynamic by using an interest-led approach so that pupils are motivated to participate and learn.

Pupils are with us for three hours, during which time they will receive 1-2-1 support and guidance. We offer a flexible pickup and drop-off service, with some pupils being picked up from home and dropped off back at home or school, while others are picked up from school and dropped off at home. This may vary learner to learner.

We pride ourselves on the high-quality service that we offer. Our experienced mentors are passionate about supporting young people, and we are committed to providing a safe, supportive, and nurturing environment where they can prosper.

Our primary objective is to support young learners in their journey of growth and development. While we understand that mainstream education may not be suitable for everyone, we strive to reintroduce them to the conventional system at a pace that is appropriate for their unique circumstances. Our aim is to provide an intervention that is not a final destination, but a stepping stone towards future success.

How we help learners

We offer English Functional Skills which will enable young people to contribute further to scenarios within further education and work, as it will prepare them to understand and participate in discussions, interpret pieces of writing and instructions, as well as helping them to put their point across clearly.

Pupils will work digitally using BKSB’s online platform  which has everything young people need to succeed in their functional skills exams.

BKSB ensures learners complete an initial assessment which gives the provision an understanding of the level which learners are at.  Learners then complete a diagnostic assessment which identifies gaps in their learning and designs a bespoke programme of learning.

BKSB covers every exam board and every topic and skill from the latest Functional Skills Reading and Writing specifications.

Everything's explained in an easy-to-understand style, with examples and notes galore.

Each topic is followed by a range of practice questions, so young people can learn and test themselves as they go. Included are exam-style practice papers for Reading and Writing with full answers to prepare them for exam day.

We can also support young people to read and discuss literature, write in a variety of forms such as essays, poetry, and creative writing, and improve their grammar and vocabulary. Esteem can also provide resources such as books, writing materials, and access to online resources to support young people as young people can access online material on the BKSB website, allowing them to work digitally and in their own time if they wish.

What skills do they learn?

Communication is used in a variety of scenarios such as business, education, and social interactions. Throughout their English studies, young people can develop their ability to express themselves effectively in writing and speech.

P
upils will be supported by their mentor completing tasks which are required within employment and the wider world  such as writing emails and letters, problem solving, attention to detail, vocabulary and grammar, critical thinking and importantly correct manners.

Creating an optimal setting for success is crucial in providing conducive conditions for individual development.

Our approach emphasises the importance of providing an environment where young people can thrive and grow. Rather than placing them in restrictive settings, such as schools or isolation, we believe in tailoring the curriculum to their needs and inspiring them on their journey.

Our goal is to energise their aspirations through an inspiring and engaging offer. To ensure success, we assign an experienced mentor who has been carefully selected to meet the child's unique needs.
